Big Australia Day on Sydney Harbour

Australia Day celebrations on and around Sydney Harbour are being billed as the biggest since the bicentenary, with more than 14 hours of entertainment planned.

The program for Sunday January 26 involves hundreds of events across the state and promises to be one of the best ever, Tourism and Major Events Minister George Souris says.

"In Sydney, there is an amazing array of activities and best of all, they're all free," he said at the launch of the Australia Day program in Sydney on Thursday.

They include the Summer Playground in Hyde Park with performances by The Wiggles and Peppa Pig and a showcase of 700 luxury and classic vehicles for CARnivale.

The events also include a summer street festival at The Rocks and all-day family entertainment at Darling Harbour culminating with the renowned Australia Day Spectacular.

The Sydney Harbour Concert Series will feature live music performances on a floating stage at Blues Point, Athol Bay and Darling Harbour.

"While the harbour concerts take centre stage, the Australia Day Council has worked hard to pull together a program that is full, diverse and has something on offer for everyone around our great state," Mr Souris said.
