Learner driver allegedly caught driving stolen car on Melbourne freeway charged

A learner driver has been charged with a string of offences after he allegedly led police on a pursuit across Melbourne's east overnight.

Police first spotted an allegedly stolen grey Mercedes Sedan on the Princes Highway in Narre Warren about 3.35am.

Officers observed the car allegedly speeding through Berwick, then onto the Princes Freeway, reaching speeds up 200km/hr.

Police said the Mercedes narrowly avoided colliding with another car on Wheelers Park Drive.

The car continued driving on Clyde Road, where officers successfully deployed a tyre deflation device.

Police said the car allegedly continued on the Monash Freeway before it was dumped near the Stud Road exit in Dandenong North.

It's alleged that the driver of the Mercedes fled on foot.

Police with assistance of a K9 unit, arrested a 16-year-old boy in a nearby reserve.

He has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, reckless conduct endangering life, driving at speed dangerous and learner driver unaccompanied.

Police are also investigating his involvement in an alleged aggravated burglary.

The Mercedes was allegedly stolen from a Coachella Way property in Berwick overnight.
