Beach debris not from MH370: ATSB

Debris washed up on a beach in Western Australia's southeast is not from missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) says.

A member of the public stumbled across the debris on a beach at Augusta, about 320km south of Perth, on Wednesday.

The material was later handed to police and photos of it were sent to the ATSB for examination.

ATSB chief commissioner Martin Dolan on Thursday said there was nothing to indicate the item was wreckage from MH370.

"We want to pursue every possible lead that will help us find MH370 but sadly this is one that isn't going to help that search," Mr Dolan told ABC Radio in Perth.

The Boeing 777 went missing on March 8 with 239 people on board.
