Barcelona attack: Stranded strangers welcomed by residents after van attack
Barcelona residents have opened their doors to strangers in need, in the wake of a deadly van attack at the popular Las Ramblas tourist strip.
Residents, hostel owners and the city’s tourism agency have offered free accommodation to those left stranded after what local authorities are calling a terror attack.
Tourism of Barcelona tweeted that it was coordinating with local hotel chain Gremi d’Hotels Bcn to provide emergency accommodation.
Other accommodation services have announced they too would be welcoming those affected.
Scores of Barcelonians have also extended open invitations.
The outpouring of kindness after tragedy echoes that made by residents of Paris following a series of coordinated terrorist attacks on November 13, 2015.
The attacks, which involved mass shootings and a suicide bombing, left 130 people dead and 368 people injured.
Meanwhile, world leaders have pledge their support for the city, with the US stating its commitment to see all terrorists “brought to justice”.
