Ban live monkey imports: Greens

The Australian Greens want to ban the importation of live monkeys for research purposes.
Greens senator Lee Rhiannon on Thursday introduced a private bill to parliament that aims to ban the importation of primates for science, citing concerns Indonesian exporters were catching monkeys in the wild in a cruel manner.
The bill does not impose a blanket ban on primate imports, meaning zoos will still be entitled to bring in animals from overseas.
