Three people arrested after four-hour police pursuit through Ballarat

Three people are under arrest after leading police on a four-hour pursuit through the streets of Ballarat.

It’s alleged the man, woman and teen went on a violent joy ride in a stolen Holden Rodeo, driving through the sleepy Victorian town without headlights and armed with a metal pole.

A police helicopter monitored the ute as it drove down the wrong side of the road, ramming another vehicle.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle in Sebastopol just after midnight Friday, but the driver took off.

Hours later, the group was spotted attempting to steal another vehicle in Alfredton and within minutes police had them cornered, crashing into a Colourbond fence at a property in Bonshow.

It’s believed the driver had to be tasered by police and then hospitalised with minor injuries.

“It was a small police pursuit over a long period of time that we were following the vehicle,” Inspector Trevor Cornwill told 9NEWS.

“We had local Ballarat units on our divisional van patrol assisting us, Police Air Wing and also the CIRT (Critical Incident Response Team) from Melbourne.”

Local resident Colleen Simmons told 9NEWS that the incident has made her fearful for the safety of her streets.

“These cars lose control. It worries me for the safety of the people – I do believe the police are trying to do a good job,” she said.

The 28-year-old man, 24-year-old woman and teenager have all been charged over the pursuit, the attempted carjacking, drug use and handling stolen goods.

Police are now investigating whether the trio may be involved in any other recent police evasions in the town.
