Baby found dead in Melbourne home, woman fighting for life

A baby has been found dead inside a home in Melbourne's north-east overnight.

Emergency services were called to a home on Langdon Drive, Mernda, around 9pm after receiving reports a six-month-old baby had been critically injured.

An infant was found dead inside the house and a 36-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries, Victoria Police said.

A woman was airlifted to hospital after suffering life threatening injuries. 9News

She was airlifted from the scene and is now fighting for her life in hospital.

The woman remains under police guard at the hospital.

Homicide detectives are investigating the incident but police say they're not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
