Little baby Ziggy was due to be born on Christmas Eve — but he cheekily decided to ignore his parents and make his grand appearance a day late.

"We told him not to come on Christmas Day, but he's already not listening to us," delighted new mum Alysha Cochran told 9News.

At 2.20pm, instead of sitting down for a classic Christmas dinner, the Carrara couple instead made history, delivering the Gold Coast Private Hospital's first ever Christmas baby.

"There were no prawns or champagne involved this year" for Christmas lunch, Mrs Cochran said.

Despite only just arriving in the world, Santa didn't miss his first delivery for little Ziggy.

"Lots of books and toys and things to last him for the year because it's going to be a year now before he gets anymore presents," Mrs Cochran said.

The Cochrans are now looking at a lifetime of double the celebration every Christmas Day.

"It will have to be Christmas in the morning and his birthday in afternoon," dad Rod Cochran said.
