Author and broadcaster Stephen Fry reveals prostate cancer diagnosis

Stephen Fry has revealed he is suffering from prostate cancer.

The author and broadcaster made the announcement on his website overnight and said had surgery for the disease in early January after doctors made the discovery during a routine check-up.

“He rang me up and said I’m little worried about your PSA levels,” the 60-year-old explained, adding after a series of tests he underwent surgery.

“This was clearly an aggressive looking bugger,” he said. “They took out 11 lymph nodes."

“I went around saying to myself, ‘I’ve got cancer. Good heavens Stephen you’re not the type of person who gets cancer.’

“As far as we know it’s all been got… for the moment I’m fit and well and happy and I just wanted to let you know because rumours had started to swell.”

Fry said his family and his “darling, darling husband” were “just marvellous” and only a small number of people knew.

“I genuinely felt my life was saved by the early intervention, so I would urge men of a certain level to get checked.

“Let’s hope I get another few years left on this planet because I rather enjoy life at the moment,” he added.
