Australian and Papua New Guinean police are in talks over the potential extradition of three former Manus Island detention centre guards accused of rape.
The guards, who were stood down and sent back to Australia after an alleged incident in mid-July, could face a possible death sentence if convicted of rape in PNG.
Immigration Minister Peter Dutton told reporters in Brisbane on Thursday the return of the men was a matter for the police forces of both countries.
