A delivery driver has caused thousands of dollars in damage after carelessly throwing a package into the front door of a Sydney home.

Mick, from Parramatta, had placed an order for printer cartridges earlier this year but got more than he bargained for when he went to grab his parcel from his front porch.

He told 9news.com.au that he found not only damage to his package but a crack in a glass panel beside his front door too.

After reviewing his CCTV, he observed a courier dressed in orange hi-vis toss the large package at his door.

In the vision, the postie throws the parcel with one hand before taking a photo on his phone and walking back to his van.

"He threw it so hard that it cracked the toughened glass panel beside my front door," Mick said.

He said the business that he bought the printer cartridges from replaced his order free of charge almost immediately, but he spent over two and a half months chasing the courier company for property damage.

"They kept saying, 'It's not us, it's not us'," he said.

Mick said he was finally reimbursed by the company when he threatened to go to the postal industry ombudsman.

"The amount wasn't massive, maybe about a couple of thousand but I had to hire a carpenter to remove the glass," he said.

The delivery company involved told 9news.com.au: "The incident was a breach of our protocols, and the delivery driver no longer works for us."

"When we found out about this incident back in May, we provided compensation to the customer."
