Australian man kidnapped in Yemen released

An Australian man kidnapped in Yemen has been found alive after mediation with local tribes.

Foreign Minister July Bishop confirmed the man was safe, but said the government wouldn't comment further to protect other Australians who remain captive overseas.

The man, who wasn't named, has been taken to Oman before returning home.

He was found with the help of local tribesmen, the Omani foreign ministry said, according to a statement carried on state news agency ONA.

Oman said it had been making efforts to find him on behalf of the Australian government. It gave no further details.
