Manly community offering "care packages" for volunteer firefighters

A community on Sydney's northern beaches is offering "welcome packs" to RFS volunteers when they return home from fighting the bushfire crisis crippling parts of the nation.

The care packages will include free accommodation, vouchers for meals and fun experiences around Manly to help firefighters recuperate after months of hard work.

Yoga teacher Zehan Putri said the response from local businesses has been huge.

"Whatever skills you might have, whatever you can offer, your time, money, any kind of products, I think that's a great way of coming together," she told 9News.

A combined 40 hotel rooms will be made available by Novotel Manly Pacific, The Sebel Manly Beach, Quest Apartments Manly Wharf and Q Station Manly.

Popular Italian restaurant Hugos is offering $100 restaurant vouchers so volunteers can treat themselves to a feed.

Owner Dave Evans says it's the least they can do.

"(The Volunteers) have sacrificed so much, some of them have been fighting fires for months now. They just need some creature comforts, and Manly is such a lovely place and we're not in that direct line of fire," Mr Evans asid.

Cafes, chiropractors, gyms and car rental outlets have also come on board.

And for a bit of fun, Four Pines Brewing Company will take volunteers on a tour of the micro-brewery complete with a nice cold pint to say thanks.

Community culture developer Sarah Turner says they will also donate and double all the money that goes into the tips jar.

"These guys are going through so much at the moment, we can only imagine. It's so easy to feel helpless. Any little thing that we can. Using businesses as a force for good and bringing them along," Ms Turner said.

Residents are being asked to contribute by donating to the RFS, the Red Cross or to FoodBank.
