Nature lovers called on to help tally Australia’s birds

Bird conservationists have sent out a national cooee for all Australians to pop their peepers on our favourite feathered friends during the Aussie Backyard Bird count.

The fourth annual National Bird Week tally, starting October 22, aims to top two million responses using a specially designed app.

Last year bird watchers recorded more than 578 species, with the Rainbow Lorikeet and Magpie remaining Australia’s most counted birds.

The ‘count’ is completed over a 20-minute period, in 2017 - 72,000 Australians took part.

The data collected helps to give conservationists a better understanding about the birds that live where people live.
