Melbourne shivers through coldest night of the year

Melburnians shivered through a brutally cold autumn night with temperatures reaching their lowest levels this year.

Temperatures in the CBD dipped below five degrees, making it the coldest night since last week – when temperatures dropped to just above six degrees.

But there will be a quick change today, with temperatures in Melbourne reaching a sunny 19 degrees during the day.

Melbourne is in for a rain-free weekend, with the no precipitation expected tomorrow either.

The city will top 20 degrees on Monday, slightly exceeding the average temperatures for this time of year.

Sydney

Sydneysiders also endured a chilly night, with temperatures dropping to below 10 degrees in the city.

A high of 20 degrees is forecasted in the city, with residents in store for a mostly sunny day. Tomorrow temperatures will also hit a top of 20 degrees.

The rain-free weather is good news for the millions of people who will be making their way into the CBD for Sydney’s Vivid Festival.

Adelaide

Adelaide will see a slightly warmer weekend than Melbourne and Sydney but will not escape the rain.

Temperatures in the city tody are forecast to hit a top of 23 degrees, with only a bit of cloud.

But the pleasant conditions will change tomorrow, with a weather system moving into the area expected to bring rain.

The rainy conditions will stick around Monday and Tuesday before clearing out for a mostly cloudy Wednesday.

Brisbane

Queensland’s capital is in for a stretch of beautiful weather, with temperatures hovering around the 23 degree mark for days.

Despite chilly nights, where temperatures this weekend will drop down to about 12 degrees, Brisbane is in for mostly sunny days with no precipitation forecasted.

Hobart

If you’re not a fan of the cold, Tasmania’s capital isn’t the place to be this weekend. After a chilly Friday night, temperatures will reach a max of 14 degrees today.

It will get even worse tonight, with the mercury dipping to only three degrees.

Hobart will escape the rain this weekend, with no precipitation expected until Tuesday.

Perth

After a week of severe weather, Perth can expect to weather even more rain this weekend, due to unstable conditions.

Temperatures will top 18 degrees today and 20 degrees tomorrow and rain is expected both days.

The rain however will clear out for the start of the working week, with a mix of sun and cloud expected for Monday.

Further south, bushfires threatened the lives and homes of Albany residents, with authorities admitting their resources are already "absolutely stretched".

Darwin

Up in Darwin, it'll be a beautiful weekend with no rain forecast.

Tempertures will reach 32 degrees on both days, with a warm overnight low of 22 degrees.
