Storms likely in Queensland and Perth but sunny skies expected across much of the country

It's a mixed start to the week across the country, with rain and storms in some areas, and sunshine in others.

Troughs are triggering showers and storms from the northwest tropics across the western deserts to the Nullarbor and in western Queensland.

The troughs are also maintaining heat in the north and interior of Western Australia.

Onshore winds on the Queensland and northern New South Wales coasts are bringing showers.,

Showers and thunderstorms across the eastern inland and in the north could come as a result of those troughs.

Warm to hot winds are likely over South Australia and Victoria.

New South Wales and the ACT

Sunshine is increasing across Sydney today, with a clearing shower, cool-to-cold in the northeast of the state.

Mostly sunny, cool-to-mild in the southeast.

Sunny, very warm in the southwest. Late storms, very warm in the northwest.

Queensland

In the Sunshine State, it'll be mostly sunny but cool-to-mild in the east.

A clearing shower in Brisbane and mostly sunny, very warm in the northwest.

Possible storms and a warm day is expected in the southwest.

Victoria

A warm and mostly sunny day in Melbourne and in the southwest. Sunny, cool-to-mild in the southeast.

Mostly sunny, very warm in the northwest. Sunny, warm in the northeast.

Western Australia

Windy with showers, cool-to-cold in the southwest.

A late shower, warm in the south. Windy, warm in the northwest.

Mostly sunny and hot in the northeast.

South Australia

Mostly sunny, warm-to-very warm in the southeast and central.

Windy, hot in the west. Mostly sunny, hot in north.

Northern Territory

Mostly sunny, very warm in the north. Sunny, hot over the interior.

Mostly sunny, very warm-to-hot in the south.

Tasmania

Mostly sunny, very warm in the southwest.

Fog then sunny, very warm in the southeast. Mostly sunny, cool-to-mild in the north.
