Aust, Turkey to tackle foreign fighters

Turkey and Australia will boost their cooperation in tackling foreign fighters, Ankara's envoy expects.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who is on his way to Turkey for talks and Anzac centenary commemorations, is expected to push the Davutoglu government to better control its borders and stop radicalised Australians travelling to Iraq and Syria to fight with Islamic State militants.

Turkey's ambassador to Australia Reha Keskintepe says the two countries already work closely when it comes to foreign fighters.

"I'm sure that as a result of the visit ... this cooperation will be further enhanced," he told AAP.
