Aust treasurer hails $3b in tax refunds

The Morrison government's income tax cuts have led 2.9 million Australians to quickly lodge their tax returns - up 460,000 on the same time last year.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said the more than $3 billion in refunds so far provided to taxpayers for the past financial year was providing an economic boost.

"This is money finding its way into the economy to be spent at a cafe, to be spent with a plumber or electrician, to be spent in retail or in other areas," Mr Frydenberg told parliament on Monday.
