Aust ministers head to Lima climate talks

Ministerial delegations will arrive in Lima, Peru for the last UN climate summit before next year's all-important Paris conference - where world leaders will put post-2020 targets on the table.

WHERE MAJOR COUNTRIES SIT ON CLIMATE TARGETS

- United States to reduce emissions by 26-28 per cent on 2005 levels by 2025

- China to peak emissions by 2030

- European Union 80 to 95 per cent on 1990 levels by 2050

- South Africa to peak emissions by 2025

- Canada 17 per cent on 2005 levels by 2020

AUSTRALIA'S POSITION

- five per cent emission reduction target on 2000 levels by 2020

- scrapped carbon tax

- introduced $2.55 billion direct action plan, which allows emitters to volunteer to cut emissions

- no post-2020 target

- wants to scale back renewable energy target

WHAT IS THE GREEN CLIMATE FUND?

- $9.7 billion has been pledged so far

- 22 countries have committed funds

- United States has contributed $3 billion, Japan $1.5 billion

- Germany, France, Sweden have contributed more than $500 million

- Switzerland, South Korea, Canada, Spain have pledged smaller contributions

- Australia has not pledged funds
