Thor fans have been given the chance to win a walk-on role in the latest blockbuster being filmed in Queensland.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said a competition has been launched to give one lucky fan a small role in Thor: Ragnarok, which is being filmed in the state's southeast.

She said the competition was a unique opportunity for an Australian fan to be on the same set as homegrown stars Chris Hemsworth and Cate Blanchett.

Hollywood stars Tom Hiddleston and Mark Ruffalo, who will reprise their respective Avengers characters of supervillain Loki and The Hulk, have flown in for the production.

The streets of Brisbane were last week transformed to resemble New York City for filming, with hundreds of star-struck fans flocking to catch a glimpse of Hemsworth and Hiddleston in action.

Ms Palaszczuk said the government had invested $30 million over four years to attract similar large-scale film and high end television to the region.

"This multi-million dollar production is expected to spend more than $100 million in Queensland and support 850 jobs during filming," she said.

The competition is open to fans aged 16 and over and entries are open until September 4.

As well as a walk-on role, the winner will be given backstage access to the production and a holiday on the Gold Coast with three friends.

Readers can enter the competition by completing an online entry form.
