Aussie fishermen catch fish with snake in its mouth

A group of Australian fishermen have interrupted a cod’s meal after reeling in the fish with a half-eaten snake in its mouth.

The anglers were stunned after pulling in the prized catch on an ANZAC Day weekend fishing trip in the Northern Territory and finding the body of a small spotted black snake hooked in its jaws.

“Pull it out,” one fisherman can be heard telling another.

“No way,” the man replies.

The pair then use pliers to keep the fish’s mouth prised open to free their hook and the dead snake.

“This is what you get when you’re a wild man in the top of Australia,” one of the fishermen says.

“And this bloke is a wild man ‘cos he’s pulling a snake out of a fish’s mouth.”

With pliers held high, the fishermen inspect the snake’s lifeless, half-chewed body.

“He’s just eaten it, isn’t it incredible,” one said.

“He hasn’t even swallowed it… he’s still going for a feed.”

After jokingly asking whether snakes will be the next trend in anglers, one of the fishermen tosses the snake and fish back into the water.

The unusual catch filmed around Melville Island in the Tiwi Islands was posted to YouTube on May 10.

The spotted black snake is one of the most venomous in Australia.
