Armed men try to steal guns from Sydney school

Four men armed with machetes have attacked a guard outside a Sydney school during a reported attempt to steal guns in the middle of the night.

The men confronted the security guard outside Scots College in Bellevue Hill and demanded "school property" about 1am on Friday.

They wanted entry to an area where target-shooting rifles were kept, Fairfax Media reports.

The guard refused and was assaulted by the men but wasn't hurt, police said.

Soon after the group left in a vehicle, possibly driven by a woman.

Rose Bay police are investigating the incident.
