April Fools' Day brings out the jokers

Vegemite is now an energy drink, airborne drones will deliver internet services and the legendary Australian racehorse Black Caviar has been cloned.

These are just a sample of the mock innovations, joke products and stories being enjoyed across the nation on April Fools' Day.

Some of the best pranks so far on Tuesday include:

*Vegemite's launch of a new energy drink, Vegemite iDRINK 2.1, on its Facebook page.

*Online retailer Kogan.com unveiling of the "Kogan Drone Broadband Network", which uses airborne drones to deliver fast, mobile internet access.

*Online shopping platform Bigcommerce's launch of "Popcommerce" - a series of pop-up e-stores that self destruct 14 days after launching.

*iiNet's new "Pet-fi" product - a gadget the offer mobile broadband when strapped onto a household pet.

*IKEA's decision to welcome insects, rodents, domestic pets and reptiles into its stores, while banning birds of prey, racehorses and deadly wild animals.

A number of bogus news stories also did the rounds:

*The "Retnup Stem Cell Foundation" released an ultrasound image of "an early-term foal foetus" clone of Black Caviar, according to racing site Punters Paradise.

*Columnist Andrew Bolt will replace Charlie Pickering on Network Ten's The Project, TV Tonight said.

*The NBL will mandate a 190cm height minimum for players next season, Fox Sports News said.

*V8 Supercars will raced in the opposite direction at Bathurst for the first time ever, according Speedcafe.com.

However, an early-morning prank text message sent to hundreds of parents fell flat.

The message said Castle Hill High School in Sydney's northwest had burnt down and was shut for the day.

The NSW education department was not amused and has brought police in to investigate.

It believes the high school's IT system was hacked.
