Police search for pair who allegedly bashed a Sydney taxi driver
New South Wales Police are searching for two people who allegedly assaulted a taxi driver in Sydney's CBD overnight.
The 53-year-old driver picked up a man and a woman at about 11pm on Hunter Street, before pulling over on Macquarie street.
Sydney City Chief Inspector Gary Coffey said upon stopping the vehicle, an argument broke out which led to the driver being repeatedly punched in the face.

"There was a dispute between the driver and the two passengers over payment of the fare," he said.
"This dispute escalated whereby the taxi driver was punched a number of times by both passengers."
Coffey said it was "very fortunate" that members of the public moved to intervene.
Police say the pair then fled and were last seen on Castlereagh Street.
The taxi driver was taken to St Vincent's Hospital by paramedics suffering head and facial injuries.

He remains in a stable condition.
CCTV vision has been released by police of two people walking through Martin Place.
Police say the pair may be able to assist with investigations.
Coffey said he believes "alcohol is certainly a factor in this crime".
