Claims 'argument' heard before grim discovery

An argument was heard at the Brunei apartment complex where Australian newlywed Anthea Bradshaw was murdered in 1994, 9News can reveal.

Carolyn Chillcott, who lived a few floors below the crime scene, claims she recalls hearing a commotion just after 2pm on the day of the murder.

"I can't remember clearly, but it just sounded like a man and woman having a domestic fight," Chillcott told Brunei police in her witness statement.

"I heard things being smashed and furniture being moved. I did look through my peep hole but I couldn't see anything."

Chillcott says she recollects that the noise continued for around seven minutes, and she then heard "very light footsteps running down the stairs".

Chillcott's witness statement is one of many now being made public in the investigative series.

Jeff Hall, who married Anthea Bradshaw 96 days before her murder, says he was at work when Anthea was killed, and arrived home to find her body in a pool of blood. Multiple witnesses have also placed him at work on that day and he has always maintained his innocence. Nobody has been able to confirm where the sounds that Chillcott recalls hearing came from.

Police have never charged anyone, and have investigated several theories, including that Anthea was killed by a mysterious stranger spotted near the crime scene.
