Australia will provide Vanuatu an additional $35 million to help the Pacific island nation recover from Tropical Cyclone Pam.

The grant comes on top of $15 million provided since the cyclone tore through Vanuatu in March, killing more than 12 and leaving thousands homeless.

The money will help repair hospitals and schools and spur the battered economy, Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop said in a statement.
