Dogs and cats removed by RSPCA from large-scale breeding operation

More than 70 animals have been removed from a WA ‘designer pets’ breeding property by the RSPCA today. 

Forty-six dogs and puppies and 20 cats and kittens were seized from a property in Gingin, 67km north of Perth, where it’s believed there was a large-scale breeding operation for pets including French Bulldogs, Chihuahuas, Maltese Shih Tzu and Sphynx and Munchkin cats.

The breeding operation was uncovered after a report that the animals’ owners failed to comply with dog and cat ownership by-laws which prohibit residents in the Shire of Gingin from keeping more than two dogs at a residence without prior council approval.

The animals’ owners were ordered to surrender all but four of the animals into the care of RSPCA WA to be rehomed.

Six animals are now being held by the Shire, which the owners can apply to have returned at a later date.

The animals found appeared to be in overall good condition but will now be assessed by the RSPCA veterinary team.
