Brave locals step in to stop road-rage attack in Melbourne

Residents have intervened in a road-rage fight after a driver armed himself with a metal pole to confront a motorbike rider in Melbourne’s north-west.

Footage obtained by 9News shows a fight breaking out just off Mickleham Road in Tullamarine about 8pm yesterday.

A man jumps out of a ute after pulling into a service road and approaches a motorcyclist wielding a long metal bar.

The motorcyclist, wearing a full-face helmet, succeeds in snatching the weapon before assaulting the driver repeatedly.

The confrontation continues until the motorcyclist throws away the bar and attempts to mount his bike and ride off.

However, the motorist manages to haul him off his bike and the two continue to wrestle.

Horrified locals standing on the footpath can be seen pleading with the two to stop, before the ute driver takes up argument with them and the motorcyclist speeds away.

“If it wasn’t for them, perhaps it could’ve escalated a lot worse,” resident Jan Laczynski told 9News this afternoon.

“They tried to intervene quite bravely to stop (the driver and motorcyclist) from fighting.”

A witness reported the incident to authorities, however all parties had left the scene when police arrived.
