Former TV host Andrew Denton is expected to undergo multiple bypass surgery after being diagnosed with advanced heart disease.

"He has recently been diagnosed with fairly advanced heart disease and will be undergoing bypass surgery shortly, " Gina McColl, Go Gentle Australia spokesperson told AAP.

Denton's former employer Triple M wished him a speedy recovery after hearing the news of his health problems.

"He's known as 'Andrew the Boy Wonder From Indoor Cricket' in the hallways of Triple M, with his tenure at the Ms including partnership with Doug Mulray and his own show, the Andrew Denton Breakfast Show," the radio station said.

"We wish him all the best ahead of his surgery."

Denton quit his work in TV and radio in order to devote himself to Go Gentle Australia, 20 years after watching his dad die from heart failure.
