While US rapper Nicki Minaj was rehearsing her new song Anaconda, one of her back-up dancers was reportedly being attacked by one.

The six-foot long snake, believed to be an anaconda, bit the dancer while they were doing a run-through ahead of the Video Music Awards on Sunday night, TMZ reported.

The dancer was treated in hospital in case she was infected after the snake bite.

Anacondas are non-venomous but can carry and transmit bacteria.

“It was just to make sure she was okay,” Captain Rory Brunner of the fire department told the New York Daily News.

He said that the snake scare “wasn’t that big of a deal” because it wasn’t venomous.

The song is set to Sir Mix-a-lot’s Baby Got Back and the rapper has received widespread criticism for the raunchy video clip.

It’s unclear if the snake will be trusted for the live telecast.
