Amazon makes changes to Alexa after random witch-like cackles

Best-selling voice assistant Alexa is having the last laugh with its owners – and freaking them out.

In fact, Amazon has announced it is changing the settings on the device because it is emitting random and unprompted creepy cackles.

Many Alexa users have recently reported the device randomly letting out an evil sounding laugh - leaving users completely freaked out and social media buzzing.

"I live alone and have lights controlled by Amazon," Twitter user Vedant Naik wrote.

"Tonight, while sleeping, I closed my eyes and said 'Alexa, lamp off.'

"I heard a woman laugh, and lights were still on. Now, I can’t sleep anymore.”

Some users were so creeped out by the glitch, they said they would be unplugging their device.

And while the company isn’t exactly sure what’s causing the glitch, it said it would be making some changes.

Amazon will be disabling the phase "Alexa laugh" and change it to "Alexa, can you laugh?".

The new phrase is "less likely" to trigger an accidental laugh, the company said.

"We are also changing Alexa’s response from simply laughter to ‘Sure, I can laugh,’ followed by laughter.”

Late night host Jimmy Kimmel even poked fun at the glitch, saying Alexa only laughs after he takes off his pants.

"Why did they program her to laugh like that in the first place?" Kimmel said.

"Are we really that desperate for approval?"
