Alleged Mongols associate arrested after high-speed pursuit through Gold Coast

An alleged bikie associate is behind bars accused over a high speed police chase through busy Gold Coast roads last night.

A police car was rammed in the drama and they claim nearly $50,000 was found on the disqualified driver.

In heart-stopping footage released by Queensland Police, the car is seen driving at high speed with lights off before stingers are deployed.

At one point the driver travels through the roundabout the wrong way.

The pursuit began at 7.10pm Sunday when the Holden Commodore with stolen plates failed to stop in Surfers Paradise.

It ended more than two hours later.

The man was taken into custody after ploughing through an intersection and straight into a police vehicle that had been blocking the road.

Police say the man behind the wheel, 38-year-old Matthew David Gilmour, is an assocate of the Mongols Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.

Inside the car police say they located a gun, drugs and more than $48,000 cash.

Mr Gilmour is facing a string of charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

His matter will return to court tomorrow where Gilmour is expected to apply for bail.
