Supermarket giant's solar-powered pitch to shoppers

Millions of Aldi shoppers from today can peruse a new range of offerings from the budget-shopping giant - in solar power.

Following a trial in Victoria and developed in partnership with Tempo Global, Aldi is now offering its range of solar and battery packages to people in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and the ACT.

Households can pre-order the packages from today, with Aldi claiming installations will begin from early November this year.

Customers can chose from two battery packages - one with a capacity of 10kwh (killowatt-hour) at $6999, or 20kwh at $8499.

Both packages come with a 6.6kw solar system and a 5.5kw inverter.

Blackout protection and installation costs are also included.

Aldi said both were also backed by a 10-year warranty and a 25-year performance guarantee on the solar panels.

"Bringing Aldi Solar to more Aussies along the eastern seaboard is an exciting step for us, expanding our commitment to delivering incredible quality and affordability beyond groceries," Aldi Australia group director Simon Padovani-Ginies said.

The partners behind the rollout have also emphasised its purported simplicity, saying the entire process was managed end to end through Aldi Solar's online portal, from preliminary checks to the installation.

"With our climate it's hard to argue about the benefits of a well-designed solar and battery system for Australian homeowners," Tempo general manager of energy Craig Handley said.

"However, the path to purchase has often been confusing and difficult."
