Police hunting man who hit woman with rifle in attempted carjacking

Police are hunting a man who assaulted a young woman in Brisbane’s north in an attempted armed robbery.

Jess Mackie, 19, had just parked her car in front of a house on Goskar Avenue in Alderley on Christmas Eve when a black Mazda CX5 stopped nearby.

A man got out of the car and demanded her car keys, hitting her in the face with the butt of a rifle when she refused.

Ms Mackie’s father came out of the house and told the man to leave.

The man threatened him with the rifle before reversing the car into him and driving away.

Ms Mackie remains in hospital with facial and eye injuries while her father suffered minor leg injuries.

Police say the CX5 was stolen from a residence in Fitzgibbon at 11.15am that day.

They have released security footage of what they believe is the same car, involved in a petrol station drive-off on Great Barrier Road at Brisbane Airport at 12.45pm.
