Airport bedlam worsens ahead of Origin decider in Brisbane

Australia's airport crisis is only set to worsen as thousands are set to pack into terminals ahead of the State of Origin decider in Brisbane on Wednesday.

Virgin cancelled 15 per cent of their flights nationwide last week, affecting thousands of passengers during the school holiday period.

And Qantas cancelled seven per cent.

Meanwhile, almost half of all domestic flights have been running late, causing delays and disruption for people around the country.

Staff shortages, the flu, and COVID-19 have all been blamed for the ongoing mess as airlines and airports continue the reboot process after a two-year shutdown.

And Australians have been warned it's only going to get worse this week - particularly in Brisbane.

Although school holidays have ended in Queensland, thousands of people are heading to the state capital ahead of the third State of Origin match tomorrow.

And after the decider is done, folk will be heading back home, creating further chaos in the Brisbane terminals.

People are advised to get to their airports the recommended time before their flight leaves - and that cancellations may leave a prospective passenger eligible for a refund or compensatory ticket.
