The air force has helped lead Queensland Police to three missing fishermen lost in the Torres Strait.
The crew of a Royal Australian Air Force AP-3C Orion found their five-metre boat on Tuesday, before directing police to the vessel about 35 nautical miles northwest of Moa Island.
The aircraft crew were able to shift their focus from a routine maritime surveillance sortie to a co-ordinated search and rescue mission involving multiple ships and aircraft from different agencies, Squadron leader Duncan Flemington said in a statement on Wednesday.
