Aged care inquiry gets six month extension

The federal government has given the aged care royal commission an extra six months to complete its work, as well as adding another commissioner.

"The Morrison government has agreed to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety's request for an extension of six months to continue to hear evidence from Australians and conduct its deliberations," Aged Care Minister Richard Colbeck on Friday.

Senator Colbeck also said an additional commissioner, Tony Pagone QC, has been appointed.

The royal commission had been due to deliver its final report by April 30 next year.
