AFP issue arrest warrant for Oliver Bridgeman

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) have issued an arrest warrant for Queensland teenager Oliver Bridgeman, who has been in Syria since 2015.

Bridgeman has insisted on social media he has been doing aid work in the war torn country since May.

AFP officers in Queensland informed his parents yesterday a warrant had been issued for their 19-year-old son's arrest.

Bridgeman can now be flagged internationally as a wanted person meaning he could face prosecution in foreign countries.

Last month the Australian Government cancelled his passport as his parents were arranging to bring him home.

The AFP advised that it issued an arrest warrant for the teen, due to suspicion her has entering Syria "with the intention of engaging in hostile activities."

"The AFP can confirm the Brisbane Joint Counter Terrorism Team has obtained an arrest warrant for Oliver Bridgeman," a spokesman said.

"The warrant relates to a breach of Section 119.1 of the Commonwealth Criminal Code Act (1995) - Incursions into foreign countries with the intention of engaging in hostile activities.

"As this matter is ongoing, and yet to be tested before a court, it would not be appropriate for the AFP to comment further."
