AFL player Jurrah remanded for assault

Former AFL player Liam Jurrah has been remanded in custody by an Alice Springs magistrate for assaulting a woman and breaching a domestic violence order.

The 25-year-old former Melbourne Football Club forward was arrested eight days ago for an aggravated assault at a lightning carnival AFL tournament in central Australia.

He appeared in Alice Springs Magistrates Court, via video link from prison, on Tuesday and was remanded in custody until May 2, when his matter is listed for a plea.

Jurrah also faced court for a string of driving offences from December, including a high speed chase in which police clocked him doing 140km/h in a 100-kilometre zone as a disqualified driver.
