AFL player Jake Carlisle slapped with ban, rehab after video allegedly showed him snorting white powder

St Kilda Saints player Jake Carlisle has accepted a two-game ban and agreed to drug rehabilitation after video emerged of him allegedly snorting a white powder.

He has also forfeited his $50,000 club marketing contract for 2016, and agreed to changes to his playing contract, according to a statement on the Saints website.

Carlisle will also receive a detention under the AFL’s Illicit Drug Policy and has started training today, two weeks ago of his planned started date.

Senior St Kilda coach Alan Richardson said a leadership meeting earlier this week had been “appropriately confronting” for Carlisle.

“This has become a very costly mistake for Jake and he clearly commences his career at St Kilda on notice that such behaviour will not be tolerated,” Richardson said.

“It’s the worst possible way to start at a new club and he was given very honest and direct feedback about the standards expected of him.

“To his credit, Jake has taken responsibility for his behaviour and has taken ownership of these sanctions which are important steps in him integrating as a Saints player.

“He now needs to work hard and buy into the culture and standards we are building. He needs to commit to making our people proud on and off the field.”

Carlisle also apologised after the meeting. 

“Obviously I’m disappointed in myself as well, but take full responsibility for what’s happened,” he said.

“I just want to apologise to all members and supporters out there, and obviously the club as well for what’s happened, I do regret it – it’s a big mistake.”

Carlisle was not a St Kilda player when the offence occurred, but had joined the team by the time video footage of the incited emerged, CEO Matt Finnis said.

The video was broadcast by A Current Affair on October 20, after it was announced Carlisle would be transferring from Essendon to St Kilda.
