AFL fans ripped off on tickets so politicians get deals

AFL fans are being short-changed with politicians being offered cheaper tickets in a sweetheart deal.

The AFL is now under pressure to explain this major difference in the price government staffers pay for footy tickets compared to the general public, as everyday footy fans fork out close to double the cost for premium seats at the MCG and AFL-Owned Etihad stadium, because of this deal between the AFL and State Government bureaucrats.

Newscorp reports the AFL has confirmed it regularly passes on premium seats to be sold at just a fraction of the face value.

The Australian Securities Investment Commission recently probed a rewards scheme, finding these prime seat tickets were being sold to its members for just $31 a premium seat, while the general public is left handing over $54 a ticket.  

Several State Government departments have admitted their public servants are among those who qualify for the cut-price deals, which offer discounts of up to 45 percent. Telstra, NAB and Lendlease are also clients listed by the platform.

The AFL is now being urged to make reserved seats cheaper for ordinary fans.
