AFL fanatic takes passion for Western Bulldogs to new level

A Darwin AFL fanatic has taken his passion for the Western Bulldogs to a new level.

While most Australian sport fans show their club loyalty by buying a membership, wearing a team guernsey or putting a sticker on the car, Wayne Challis has had a intricate tattoo plastered on the back of his bald head.

Wayne, 51, or Egg to his mates (because of his unique body shape) has supported the club all his life and has told 9 News Darwin, he came up with the idea after watching the Dogs win their first premiership in decades at the MCG.

"I went down there and they won the grand final after 42 years of waiting - it was the best weekend in my life, I'll never forget it," he said.

Egg lost his left ear during a cancer scare last year and borrowed the design from a Herald Sun celebratory poster.

But getting someone to tattoo it on his head proved a difficult task, because of where it was going and Egg's medical history.

That all changed when he met 'Legs' (tattoo artist Donald Law) who was moved by his passion and agreed to do the job.

"After talking to him I could see that he was really committed and wanted it," Legs explained "I just wanted to do it to make him happy."

After two long sessions in the tattoo studio, Egg is now proudly sporting a premier's logo.

"I love it - I wish I could see it more often."

Eggs' beloved Western Bulldogs play GWS tonight (Friday) aiming for their fifth win in six games.

And if the club defends its title in September, expect Legs to step in again - Egg says he'll tattoo "back to back" on his forehead!
