Adelaide teenagers targeted in ‘vicious’ attack after asking smokers to move away

Two Adelaide teenagers have become the target of a vicious attack after asking two young men who were smoking in a public park to move away.

Thirteen-year-old Kyle White told 9NEWS he was spending time with friends at Hayfield Park in Blakeview, north of Adelaide, when two men began smoking nearby and he asked them to move.

He said the men then became agitated, with one throwing a sickening punch towards his face.

“He hit me seven times,” Kyle told 9NEWS.

“I was just shocked… a bit scared.”

Kyle’s 13-year-old friend, Jade Wickhams, was also attacked in the altercation, being thrown to the ground and punched twice.

“He threw me to the floor by my collar on my shirt and then he hit me multiple times,” she said.

“I tried to leave and run away.”

Jade’s mother, Nicole Macartney, has slammed the alleged attackers and called their actions “vicious”.

“No kid should be hit, no 13-year-olds, not at any age but especially as a girl,” she said.

Anti-violence advocate Brett Duncanson from the Sammy D Foundation also voiced his concerns about the alleged assault.

“A hit like that, it’s a matter of millimetres, or the way the victim could have fallen (which) is the difference between life and death,” he said.

Police have confirmed they are now investigating the matter.
