Teen beaten with hammer and baseball bat during kidnapping
Disturbing security video showing a group of kidnappers beating a teenager with a hammer before dragging him into a car in Adelaide’s north has been played in court.
The 19-year-old victim was allegedly beaten with a baseball bat and a hammer at his Andrews Farm home last October.
A group of alleged attackers then dragged him into a sedan and drove into the Adelaide Hills, where he was bashed over the head with a hammer, the court heard.
Four men have since pleaded guilty to kidnapping and assault charges. Three of them today asked to be spared jail time over the attack.
Among the alleged attackers were 28-year-old Aaron Daniele, who was arrested a week after the alleged abduction, and 21-year-old Neil Sarmiento, the alleged driver and the only member of the gang currently free on bail.
The victim said he still fears his attackers and can no longer go out in public.
"I think about it every day," he told the court.
"I worry they have other people looking for me."
The judge has heard the attack was over an outstanding debt from a drug deal that was also caught on camera.
The case is expected to return to court in May.
