Adelaide streets at a crawl as botched roads spark hazard

Pavers installed during a multi-million dollar redevelopment in Adelaide’s CBD have made the roads dangerously slippery when wet.

The new pavers have prompted lower speed limits down to 25km/h along Victoria Square when wet, and just 10km/h along Hindley Street.

It is unclear at this stage how long the speed restrictions will remain in place.

Adelaide City Council is currently working to resolve the slippery problem at both locations in the city, however it is too early to determine if the pavers can be repaired or whether they will need to be replaced.

“I think this is just one small issue that needs to be worked through and resolved,” Neil Brown from Adelaide City Council said.

“I have no doubt that the experts will resolve the issue shortly”.

Concerns are now growing that ratepayers will foot the bill for both the original roadworks and any potential fixes applied to the road surface.
