Fleeing car chase suspect tackle to the ground by Adelaide police

The dramatic moment a car chase suspect was taken down by police in Adelaide's northern suburbs has been captured in vision obtained exclusively by 9NEWS.

In the vision, the man can be seen running through a service station, appearing to stop and surrendering to officers before they tackle him to the ground.

As the man is restrained, one police officer appears to throw several punches.

Police say that at around 10.30am a patrol attempted to stop a Holden sedan in Stirling Court at Smithfield Plains.

It's alleged the driver then crashed into two police cars before his vehicle came to rest in wet cement on a construction site.

Concreter Adrian Leppa witnessed the final moments of the chase.

"One of the cop cars hit him just as he was coming out to this road here. Luckily he did because he probably would have either wiped our truck out or hit a tree and killed himself," he said.

"It was just lucky for us that we weren't in his line of fire at the time. It was just a scary moment, we're okay now."

The suspect allegedly fled the crash scene on foot, before the arrest occurred at the nearby service station.

A 23-year-old man from North Plympton will face a number of charges including engaging in a police pursuit, acts to endanger life, driving unlicensed and driving under the influence.

He was refused bail to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The circumstances of the chase and the arrest will also be the subject of an internal SA Police review.
