A spring thunderstorm brought lightning strikes, flash flooding and hail to Adelaide this afternoon, flooding roads and blanketing streets in white.

A low pressure system that moved in from the west brought the downpour, with video showing rain and hail pelting down into suburban backyards and roads, forcing motorists to slow down.

Photos uploaded to Twitter resembled snow-covered fields, with one user posting a photo of a lightning strike in the CBD accompanied by the caption, “Thunderbolt and lightning, very very frightening!”

One resident, Dylan Walsh, told 9News.com.au that steam could be seen coming off the side of a house wall due to the sudden drop in temperature.

The Bureau of Meteorology said there were chances of another thunderstorm later this evening, however they cancelled a previously-issued road weather alert for the city.
