A police officer filmed punching a suspect during an arrest in Adelaide's south has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

The officer can be seen striking 22-year-old Clarence Yates in the face moments after he allegedly spat on the senior constable's chin, neck and arm.

Patrols were called to the Morphett Vale House, in July following reports a group of men had been vandalising signs nearby.

The Police Commissioner revealing a "thorough" review has taken place and no steps will be taken against the officer involved.

"I don't propose to go into the details and I am satisfied that no action is required at this stage," Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said.
