Devastating Adelaide fire destroys house, luxury car

A frightening blaze has engulfed a home in the Adelaide suburb of Burton.

The fire broke out 1:15am, forcing the sole occupant to flee. His high-end Corvette and a motorbike were also destroyed.

"To have your house go up just before Christmas is horrendous, so we're just glad that they're safe, that they're out and hopefully that can be insured and replaced," neighbour Kerrie said.

The owner is believed to have been woken by noises in his roof. Assuming someone was breaking in, he grabbed a stick before realising the house was ablaze.

The fire's cause remains under investigation, but it's believed inside the roof is where it started. The damage bill is estimated to be $650,000.

"It was horrific. It went up that quickly, we knew there was no way of saving the house," Kerrie said.

Firefighters battled the blaze for over an hour, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring properties.
