An Adelaide dad's long-time dream to build a new home for his family is a step closer after a "life-changing" lotto win.

The man, from Davoren Park in the city's north, won the $4.8 million Set For Life draw last night.

The prize is paid out in instalments of $20,000 a month for 20 years.

"It's life-changing," the man said.

"I've got a young family, and this will help us build a house.

"I've always wanted to build a nice family home for us."

He admitted he didn't sleep much last night after realising he'd won the big one.

"I looked at my ticket last night, saw I had the numbers and showed my wife, but she was saying, 'No we didn't, no we didn't'," he said.

"All night we were literally going, 'no we didn't, no we didn't'. It's unbelievable."

The dad, a regular Set For Life ticket buyer, purchased his winning entry via The Lott app.

He was the only division one winner in Australia.
